A kerfuffle over six ladies who take their lap dogs to bingo has gotten out of hand in a sleepy Victorian town.
In a Victorian town called South Gippsland in Australia, bingo is quite important to a small group of people, but so are their companion dogs. And a few ladies with a few small dogs are creating two split sides on the issue of whether they should be allowed to bring dogs to the bingo hall.
These six dog-loving women also take their clingy canines to weight watchers and art class, and a few members of the community are saying enough is enough.
However, Mrs. Kathy Pettingill (who plays an active role as bingo caller and also organizes weight watchers) is happy to be hospitable to the small pups. Mrs. Pettingill, who is 72 years old, worries that bingo may not continue if the dogs are banned, since it would mean a lot fewer ladies and possibly not enough to keep the game going.
"It's not as if they're wolfhounds running around the place," said Pettingill. "They're little lap dogs and their owners like to have them with them all the time."
On the other side, Bev Walker is a member of the management committee and won't stand for it any longer, saying "I have tolerated it for years, but I am sick of dogs running under my legs."
With no possibility of agreeing to disagree, the two disputing sides will meet later this month to try and settle the issue for once and for all. Here's hoping they decide to just let sleeping dogs lie, or else the whole community might just go to the dogs.
