Patrick, overcome with hunger, realized he had lost all track of time. It was time for decisive action, and so he decided to waste no more time in taking a full inventory of his surroundings. Groping blindly in the dark he had managed to find a small metal fork under one of the benches, but that was the extent of his useful findings. Exhausted, he found it hard to focus in the dull darkness of his chamber. He knew now that the cell wouldn't be hard to crack, because it was nothing more than a converted supplies room. Jimmying the fork into the slot of the door, Patrick jiggled the lock until he heard a click.
"You know, I never thought it would be that easy. Bloody TV wasn't lying!" He thought to himself, chuckling. Sliding the door open quietly, he glanced down the corridor.
Gaining confidence in his newly acquired skills as a super sleuth, Patrick snuck down the hall, silently slipping past the sleeping sentry. He heard grunting down the hall to his right, and the conversation of guards to his left. Taking a risk Patrick ran low tothe ground down the dark hallway, and found Dan in the furnace room.
Dan looked surprised, impressed and a little worse for wear and asked, "Patrick, how the hell did you get here?"
"I picked the lock with a fork, Dan! Are you all right?"
"Yes I'm fine," said Dan, "they hadn't begun torturing me yet, and as you can see I was just about free. Help me out here?"
Patrick bent down to help Dan out of the bindings around hiswrists and ankles, but suddenly there was the sound of footsteps downthe corridor.
"Patrick," Dan whispered, "hide behind the door, I'll get one with the chair, if there's more, you tackle them, yes?"
"Ace Dan, I'm on it." Patrick looked determined.
The guards walked in and looked at Dan, appearing bound to thechair. Two walked in, as well as someone who looked to be in charge of things. Just as the guards reached for him, Dan struck them both well across the face with the seat, pushing the larger man as he ran towards the door. Patrick, taking this as his cue for action, slide tackled the two guards then escaped into the hall as well, a gun shot narrowly missed his head.
"Bloody hell Dan, I swear if I get shot at or shot one more time!" Patrick cried out, half grinning. He was beginning to enjoy their great escape.
"I won't let that happen again Patrick, you have my word." Dan managed to say in between short breaths.
Running in the direction the guards had originally come from, Patrick took the lead.
"Dan, I know my way around down here, let me get us out. There should be a stairwell just around the bend."
Sure as his words, there was a stairwell leading up to the bingo hall, and Patrick and Dan were outside in the cold of night.
"All right Patrick, it's freezing out here. They don't know who you are, so let's go to your place. We can get our act together there."
"Fine, Dan, fine. I expect some information though. Let's hurry, I want to be long gone by the time they get up."
Hailing a cab, Dan and Patrick drove into the night.
