The Spy Who Called Bingo: Part 6

The Spy Who Called BingoIt was a frosty night. Phoenix pushed the key into Paula's lock, opening the door to her flat. They were both exhausted, and their gazes were averted... Phoenix could tell Paula didn't want to talk.

"Paula, what did you think of the woman we met today? I'll tell you now - I don't trust her as far as I could throw her." Phoenix said. Phoenix was worn down by the whole affair; they hadn't been making any headway into finding their lost men.

"Would you care for something warm to drink, Paula? Perhaps a spirit to help soothe those nerves of yours?" Phoenix asked.

"No, thank you Phoenix. Alcohol is the last thing I need at the moment." Paula said. Phoenix thought she looked anxious. "I just need some time to clear my head."

"Fair enough, fair enough. Some TV perhaps? I know the news is coming on shortly." Phoenix said, glancing at the clock. It was almost midnight; they should be retiring soon. The words had hardly left her mouth when she heard a knock at the door.

"Who on earth would be disturbing us at this hour?" Phoenix said, a bit irritated. Walking across the room, she opened the door brusquely, to a see a face she certainly did not expect to see.

"Officer Reeves? How may I help you this fine evening?" Phoenix said in a tone that was not as kind as her words.

"Phoenix, a pleasure as always. Listen, I've come to talk to you about your discussion at the police hall earlier today. There's been some new information brought forth, and I also need to tell you a bit about miss 'high and mighty', whom you met earlier."

"Well, go on then Reeves, and yes you may come in for a bit." Paula said, easing up a bit. Announcing back at her sister she added, "Paula! Officer Reeves seems to be paying us a visit."

"Oh, hello Officer Reeves," said Paula, surprised and a bit withdrawn. "What's the word this evening?"

"Well Paula, Phoenix, it has to do with Dan and Patrick. They've been spotted on the move uptown near the Pleasant Surprise bingo hall. Reports say earlier this evening they were seen getting into a cab and heading lord knows where. Our man on the site was told not to engage because of the high profile status of this case."

Paula paused for a moment, and then replied, "Well that's fantastic! We can finally get the story from their mouths, and then we can talk to Agent Drejna!"

"Easy there Paula, let's not involve Drejna just yet," Reeves said softly. "I want to pursue this matter without her for now... in fact, just between you and I - and if you ever mentioned to anyone I said this of course I would deny it - I feel there's something not right about her. Of course I can't question her in the force or I'll get thrown out."

"It's okay Reeves, I understand completely. I don't know what it was, perhaps it was her blunt manner, but I did not feel comfortable with Investigator Drejna either. But I think I can trust you, so please let us know what we can do to help." Phoenix confided.

Before another word could be spoken, Phoenix's cell phone sounded. It seemed she had a voicemail. Dialing her voicemail in, she looked surprised first at Paula, and then to Officer Reeves.

"It's Patrick and Dan. They've gotten to Pat's house safely, and they want to meet up. What should we do?"
